Automobiles in German Town Found Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were contacted by a man who found a automobile in Hanau covered with reddish substance

Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a swastika, they added.

Officers then located multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.

A senior representative said the attack rendered him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.

"This event hits the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
